Who can participate?
All Texas State faculty and postdoctoral students are eligible to write articles for The Conversation.
-
How long are the articles?
Usually less than 1,000 words.
-
Can I submit a previously published article or scholarly work?
No. All articles written for The Conversation are original pieces.
-
Can I have a coauthor?
Yes, but generally it should be no more than (3) coauthors per article.
-
How long does the process take?
The Conversation editor will work with you to devise a reasonable timeline. However, some articles may be time sensitive as they are tied to a recent news event.
-
What do The Conversation editors help with?
The Conversation editors play a key role in the writing process. After your pitch has been accepted, an editor will reach out to you to discuss specifics about the article and to answer any questions.
Once your draft is ready, the editor will review and edit, find relevant images, format the piece, and generally help to craft it for a general audience. The editing process may take a few rounds.
-
Do I need to reach out to anyone at Texas State to submit a pitch?
You can either submit a pitch on your own directly to The Conversation, or if you would prefer assistance with developing your pitch before submitting, you can reach out to Rodney Crouther or Edward Sanchez for support.
-
What does The Conversation look for in a pitch?
Editors are looking for timely pitches and stories that would be interesting to a general audience and which can cover a topic in fewer than 1,000 words. You should be an academic expert in the topic you are covering.
