Introducing a New Homepage for Texas State

After a long research and design process, University Marketing is pleased to launch a bright, new look for the Texas State homepage.

Why Redesign It?

Web design and best practices are always progressing, and standards had changed significantly since TXST’s last homepage redesign in 2015. To keep up with these industry changes and to best serve our community, we improved both the design and the functionality of the site.

We created separate pages for the different segments of our audience so that viewers can quickly get to the information that matters to them. For example, a link to class registration is very important for current students, but is not relevant to families who are just beginning to consider Texas State for their college journey. This redesign helped us streamline the homepage’s content from 200 links down to around 60 — a much more manageable amount that gives a stronger brand impression.

The homepage itself is now focused on demonstrating who Texas State is and what we value. Meanwhile, the slide-out menu on mobile (top menu on desktop) contains links to landing pages that hold the most-used tools for current students, faculty and staff, family and visitors, and alumni. Bookmark the one that matches your needs!

How Do I Find…?

We get it: change can be frustrating. Here’s a guide to getting familiar with the new homepage system.

When in doubt, go to the slide-out menu on mobile (or top menu on desktop) and find the landing page that fits who you are.

Expand or Collapse all.
  • It’s on both the Current Students and the Faculty & Staff landing pages.

  • It’s on both the Current Students and the Faculty & Staff landing pages.

  • TRACS — and Canvas, which will be gradually replacing it — is on both the Current Students and the Faculty & Staff landing pages.

On both pages, the link is labeled "TRACS/Canvas".

  • It’s on both the Current Students and the Faculty & Staff landing pages.

  • It’s on both the Current Students and the Faculty & Staff landing pages.

  • “Pay Tuition” is now at the top of the Current Students landing page. The other options from “More Tools” are on the Current Students and Faculty & Staff landing pages.

  • It’s at the top of the Current Students landing page.

  • First of all: the academic calendar is on both the Current Students and the Faculty & Staff landing pages.

A link to the university events calendar is on the homepage in the maroon “Explore TXST” section (you might need to scroll down). Down further on the homepage, there’s a section with events that are focused on prospective students, like information sessions and application deadlines.

Each audience landing page also has an “Important Dates” section with targeted events. For instance, the Family & Visitors landing page shows events and deadlines like tuition due dates and Family Weekend. The Faculty & Staff landing page shows events like employee trainings and commencement. The Current Students landing page provides dates for final exams and registration periods.

  • The area that used to be called “News” is still on the homepage, but now it’s called “Explore TXST” and it features even more great stories (and photos!) about the university. From that section, you can follow a link to the Newsroom to read more.

  • Maps are on each of the landing pages: Current Students, Faculty & Staff, Family & Visitors.

  • The catalog is on both the Current Students and the Faculty & Staff landing pages. Class schedules are on the Current Students landing page.
